When our longtime client, a skilled trades school (this time the campus in Ajax), reached out again in May 2025, they had new location opening, a 10,000 sq ft challenge on their hands. The concrete was in rough shape, just like you’d expect in an industrial facility. The old coating was peeling, there was glue residue clinging to parts of the slab and in one 1,400 sq ft section, ceramic tile covered the floor entirely. Normally, we don’t recommend coating over tile, but this was a budget-conscious project and we knew how to make it work safely. The client wasn’t looking for a quick fix. They needed a floor that would look professional, hold up under constant use and deliver slip resistance without blowing the budget or disrupting class schedules.
We came through once again with a full flake system designed for hard use and clean finishes. First, we removed the old coatings and glue using aggressive PCD diamond tooling. For the tiled section, we ground the surface, filled in broken pieces and primed it with a 100% solids water-based epoxy to ensure a strong bond. Then, we carried out our signature prep diamond grinding and minor crack repair before laying down a polyurethane tinted basecoat across the entire space. We applied a full broadcast of our classic flake blend, followed by a polyaspartic topcoat infused with fine aluminum oxide for maximum grip and durability. The result was a smooth, unified surface that looked professional and will hold up to daily abuse from boots, tools, spills and heavy foot traffic.
