Problem & Solution: A Floor That Needed More Than Just a Touch-Up

The Problem:

The client had three distinct areas that needed serious attention—a two-door garage, outdoor basement stairs, and a back porch landing. Each space had its own set of challenges:

  • The garage floor was worn, cracked, and exposed to vehicle traffic, leading to dirt buildup and deterioration over time. The client also wanted 1 ft verticals coated to prevent moisture and grime from collecting at the base of the walls.
  • The outdoor basement stairs were a major safety hazard, especially in wet conditions. The surface lacked traction, making it dangerous during rain, snow, and icy conditions.
  • The back porch landing, which was connected to the stairs, had visible cracks and surface damage, making it look worn out and prone to water damage.

The client needed a long-term, slip-resistant, and durable flooring solution that would withstand vehicle traffic, harsh weather, and heavy foot traffic.

The Solution:

We recommended a flake system with aluminum oxide added to the topcoat for extra grip, safety, and durability. Here’s why this was the perfect solution:

  • Flake System for Durability & Traction: The combination of vinyl flakes and polyaspartic coatings creates a slip-resistant, impact-resistant, and easy-to-maintain surface—perfect for both indoor and outdoor applications.
  • Crack Repair for Structural Integrity: Before applying any coatings, we needed to properly repair and reinforce the existing cracks to prevent future damage.
  • Aluminum Oxide for Extra Grip: Outdoor stairs and the back porch landing are high-risk areas for slips. By adding aluminum oxide to the topcoat, we ensured that the surfaces had enhanced traction, even in wet conditions.
  • 1 ft Vertical Coating in the Garage: By extending the coating 1 ft up the garage walls, we protected the base from water intrusion, stains, and damage caused by vehicle tires and daily use.

After these upgrades, the garage, stairs, and porch were transformed into seamless, high-performance surfaces that were built to last and safe for all conditions.

Task: Flake System Installation – The Full Breakdown

  • Surface Prep – Grinding It to Perfection
    • First, we ground down the entire surface to remove dirt, imperfections, and contaminants, ensuring maximum adhesion.
  • Crack Repair – Strengthening the Foundation
    • Step 1: Grinding the cracks open to expose the weak points.
    • Step 2: Filling them with high-strength polyurea crack filler to ensure structural integrity.
    • Step 3: Grinding over the filled cracks again to create a smooth, even surface before applying coatings.
  • Basecoat Application – Laying the Foundation
    • Applied a polyurea/polyaspartic basecoat, which is flexible, impact-resistant, and built for heavy-duty use.
  • Full Flake Broadcast – A Perfect Finish
    • Vinyl flakes were broadcasted to full rejection, ensuring 100% coverage and a textured, slip-resistant surface.
  • 1 ft Vertical Coating in the Garage – Seamless Protection
    • Extended the coating 1 ft up the garage walls, eliminating weak points where water and dirt could settle.
  • Aluminum Oxide Addition – Extra Safety for the Stairs & Porch
    • Mixed aluminum oxide into the topcoat, creating a high-traction, slip-resistant surface for the outdoor stairs and back porch landing.
  • Topcoat Application – Sealing the Deal
    • Applied a clear polyaspartic topcoat, providing UV resistance, chemical protection, and long-lasting durability.
  • Final Reveal – A Safe, Durable & Beautiful Transformation
    • In just a few days, the client’s garage, stairs, and porch went from worn-out and unsafe to sleek, durable, and slip-resistant.

We pull up to this garage, outdoor basement stairs, and back porch landing, and the first thing we see? A garage floor with visible cracks, outdoor stairs that looked like a slip-and-slide waiting to happen, and a porch that had clearly battled years of weather damage. The client wanted a seamless, durable solution that could handle cars, rain, foot traffic, and whatever else life threw at it.

“First things first—we had to fix those cracks.”

No way we were coating over cracks that would just resurface later. We ground them open, filled them in with polyurea, and then ground them smooth again so the new coatings would be flawless and long-lasting.

“Next up? A bulletproof base.”

We rolled out a polyurea/polyaspartic basecoat that locked onto the surface, setting up the foundation for a tough, impact-resistant system.

“Then came the fun part—flakes everywhere.”

We went full broadcast, completely covering the surface with vinyl flakes to create a textured, seamless look that’s both stylish and slip-resistant. But we weren’t done yet…

“The garage got a little extra love.”

Since the client wanted extra protection, we extended the coating 1 ft up the garage walls, preventing stains, moisture damage, and grime buildup at the base.

“Now, about those stairs…”

These things were just waiting for someone to take a bad fall—especially in bad weather. To fix that once and for all, we mixed aluminum oxide into the topcoat, giving the stairs next-level grip and safety.

“Final step—locking it all in.”

The polyaspartic topcoat sealed everything up, UV-resistant, chemical-proof, and built to handle heavy use. No fading, no peeling, just a solid, reliable surface that looked incredible.

“And just like that, another floor, another masterpiece.”

Now, the garage is clean and protected, the stairs are completely slip-proof, and the porch? Weather-resistant, durable, and looking brand new.

If your garage, stairs, or outdoor spaces need a serious upgrade, you know who to call.
